The Croatian national team returned to international cricket for the first time since 2012. Croatia took an inexperienced, fresh looking 14 man squad to Helsinki, Finland with 10 players making their debut for the Baggy Reds in the ICC T20 World Cup qualifiers 10th – 20th July 2022. With ex-international England player Darren Maddy as our Head Coach, experienced international Jeff Grzinic as Captain and debutant Daniel Turkich as Vice Captain, the team played 5 matches in total against 5 far more internationally experienced national teams. Croatia achieved their first goal of qualifying through the 4 game group stage and then won its final play-off game to end what was a successful return to ICC Associate level cricket after a decade. Considering the majority of the team had never tasted international competition before and the team had never played together before, the first game of Croatia’s performance was impressive and set up a bright future for the men wearing their Baggy Reds caps.
